As construction of Edinburgh's glorious New Town rolled out, work was completed on Cumberland St and its environs around 1812 - a relatively late phase, hence it sits towards the northernmost edge of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fully bought-into the Georgian ideal of order and regularity, Cumberland St and it's sibling Northumberland St lie respectively to the north and the south of the axis-of-symmetry that is Great King St.
Despite these gilt-edged historical credentials (...Beethoven was at his creative peak and the Titanic didn't set sail for another century!) it's in this context that we welcome you to our classical yet thoroughly contemporary New Town haven. A pair of crisp, hand-made yet innocuous front doors give little clue to the luxurious accommodation that lies within, which will define and delight every moment you spend here.
The doors swing open into a paneled Draught Lobby - well-proportioned for storing outdoor wear and shoes, made easier by a pair of folding chairs salvaged from a Czechoslovakian theatre. Continue through into the spacious internal Hall from which the other rooms flow, perhaps pausing to enjoy original art and lavish paneling.
It's a theme which continues into the Sitting Room: a spacious principal room, melding great comfort and discreet Scottish warmth with Scandinavian mid-century overtones - all overlooking the green of neighbouring gardens through an original sash window. Also off the Hall in its own spacious alcove you'll find a novel bespoke dining bar - beautifully lit and interacting ingeniously with the immaculate kitchen.
The Kitchen itself is generously specified, practical and crammed with storage space and quality equipment - all visually enlivened by a vibrant but subtle mineral blue.
A restful night is ensured in the sanctuary-of-calm that is the Bedroom: quality furniture, premium lighting, local artworks and calming William Morris wallpaper all conspire to enhance your wellbeing. Finally, two steps across the Hall you'll find a magnificent Bathroom - wonderful sanitary ware, tactile fittings and lavish Italian marble combining to create the ambience of an indulgent spa.
We collaborated with artists & artisans in undertaking a complete rebirth of the Cumberland St apartment. The interior's entire fabric was refurbished or renewed, meaning everything you see and touch is pristine. However, we're sure you'll concur it's a gentle update carried out with more than a nod to its heritage, and done in a way which transforms your Edinburgh visit. And may there be many of them...

We had the most delightful time staying at the Cumberland Street flat this weekend. Martin and Weng's attention to every gracious detail and attention to us as your guests was second to none. We have stayed at other places which have been really good and always found ourselves saying "if only they had this too or thought of this as well" but there was none of that at this place. The hosts had thought of everything and had everything we could have asked for and then some. Thanks again to Martin and Weng for being amazing hosts. We will be back!

Martin & Weng have really outdone themselves with their newly renovated flat. No detail was too small to escape their attention. The decor is polished yet comfortable, the bed comfy, and the kitchen fully equipped (seriously- there's even a rolling pin). Warm and cozy on a dreich day. Great for longer stays with all the amenities you might want, including a washer/dryer and proper hair dryer. Terrific location in New Town just steps away from Stockbridge or a quick walk to city center, and dangerously close to a few of the city's finest bakeries/coffee shops. Three groceries within an easy walk should you choose to cook for yourself. (Did I mention the well-equipped kitchen?) And of course the most delightful and accommodating hosts. We've stayed at another property they own over the years (also delightful) and can honestly say that they go out of their way to make you feel at home and cared for.

The flat is lovely - designed and decorated with obvious care and exquisite taste. Everything was in perfect working order (which means there were no burnt-out light bulbs or faulty appliances as we've often found in places operated or maintained by third parties). Martin and Weng seemed committed personally to ensure that our stay was as pleasant and comfortable as possible. The flat is quiet, and the separate bedroom means that someone asleep will not be disturbed by someone else busy in the kitchen or sitting room.

The bar has now been set impossibly high. This remarkably appointed and spacious little apartment is the perfect place to home base in Edinburgh. It immediately feels like home the moment you walk through the door. The owners, Martin and Weng, were very accommodating and kind hosts. You’re a short walk from charming Stockbridge and just outside of the busy touristy zone so it’s peaceful. An exceptional gem, indeed!

The pictures don’t lie, this place really is as beautiful as it appears. We stayed for two weeks, felt relaxed and comfortable. It didn’t take long to feel at home. The location is ideal, a few minutes from shops of all kinds, galleries, museums, etc., but far enough not to hear the hustle and bustle of major traffic. Words won't do our stay justice. This flat is PERFECT for a couple wanting to explore Edinburgh. There's so much within walking distance, and not just tourist attractions - the Stockbridge neighborhood is full of fantastic dining, pubs, shopping, etc. The flat itself is a wonderful oasis. Your apartment was simply wonderful. The apt was incredibly spacious, comfortable, impeccably clean and so organized it made our stay easy and more importantly stress free. The apt is quiet. We could not think of a better place to relax in after a long day of sightseeing. As good as your pictures and descriptions are it does not fully capture the wonderful amenities this apt as to offer. The kitchen was fully stocked so when we did decide to cook it was easy. Grocery stores and excellent restaurants are all within easy walking distance. The architecture in this neighborhood is divine. The Sunday Stockbridge Market and the Royal Botanic Gardens are very close by.
